Tips for use

  • There's no hard rules when it comes to creative prism filters, if you're happy with the images, then you're probably doing it right!
  • Generally speaking, people usually work at wider apertures (f2.8 and similar) when using a filter like this as it smooths out the transition from the "normal" part of the image to the warped section. Wider apertures are also useful for reducing the likelihood of seeing the thick, flat edge of the glass when shooting through the filter.
  • Thick glass like this can confuse AF systems. Either set an AF point on your camera and work around that, or compose your photo and half-press the shutter then quickly put the filter in front of the lens before taking the shot. Always try to focus through the flat part of the filter, if you use the angled surface it's going to be much harder work.
  • Expect blurring and chromatic aberration from the angled part of the filter, it's meant to happen, embrace it!
