This is sample stock and is unlikely to be restocked when it sells out. Please note that some of the sample images were taken with the screw-in split diopter, but you will see the same effect whether you are handheld or using the screw-in version. The filter shown is the 150mm version.

Split diopters are a filter type that have existed for a long time, originally used in film making for some iconic shots that "cheat" depth of field, making it possible to focus on something that is close, and something far away at the same time and still have interesting blur between your two subjects.

For photographers and videographers a split diopter can offer more than that one niche usage. It can also add some beautiful blur and dazzling bokeh to half of your image.

  • 79mm or 150mm sizes available
  • Tripod screw mount on handle
  • 79mm version comes with a padded pouch for safe storage, 150mm version has custom fit padding in the box.
  • Comes with free lens cloth.

Tips & General Usage

There is no wrong way to use creative filters. If you like the images you're producing that's all that matters.

  • AF systems will struggle to focus through the filter. I usually keep my AF point in the middle and work around it, or lock my focus and then bring the diopter into the frame.
  • Usually with my creative filters I like to use them at wide apertures (f2.8 and wider), but the split diopter is a little different and it's worth playing around with different depths of field to see what works for a certain situation.

Be sure to tag @riguphoto on Instagram with your split images, I'd love to see how you're using the filter!
