The  Galaxy filter is a fusion of the iconic starburst effect with a hint of prismatic flare. This unique combination creates a dreamy and otherworldly effect in your photos.

• Due to the protruding prism on the filter it is not possible to stack another filter in front of the Galaxy filter, but you can stack behind it.

Spektrem Effects recommend that this filter is used with a lens that has a large front element and a fast aperture (preferably faster than f2.8). If you are planning on using this with a step ring you need to make sure that the galaxy prism will physically be in front of the lens, for example, if you are using a 49-77mm step up ring (49mm lens thread and a 77mm filter) then you aren't going to see the effect in your photos.

The Galaxy filter works best in situations where there is a strong light source or bright highlights in the scene. This is because the filter diffracts and refracts light to create the starburst, rainbow, and prism effects, so the more light there is to work with, the more dramatic the effect will be. The filter can be especially effective in landscape photography, cityscapes, and night photography where there are multiple light sources. However, it will always give you something which is unique and unusual, so try it out in different conditions and see what you like.

For example, on a longer focal length with a 49mm filter thread lens the "normal" section of the image is going to be larger than in the sample photos with less warping. This can be good or bad depending on the kind of shots you want to take, but mostly I want you to be aware that the physical size of the lens can have an impact just as much as the focal length.
