Sparks? Streak? Flares? Whatever you want to call them, the radiant filter gives your strong highlights a real bump and adds some magic to your images.

We like to call this the “dancefloor filter.” It’s perfect for wedding photographers once the tables have been cleared and guests are throwing some shapes. If you used to worry about your strobes getting in the shot, now they’re a feature, with strong streaks of light coming from your bare flash and other lighting around the room.

A filter like this works best at night or in low light, where you’ve got a good contrast between your highlights and the background, so that it’s easier to see the effect in your image.

If you shoot wide open apertures (in the region of f2.8) with this filter you’re going to get some fairly dreamy and soft streaks from your light source, stop down (f11 and above) and you’ll get a much more defined streak of light which becomes shorter and disconnected from the light source. It’s all about playing around with your settings and finding out what works for your style and the situation you’re in. The gif below goes from f1.8 to f16.

  • Available with a 77mm or 82mm filter thread.
  • Get a step up ring if you have a different sized filter thread on your lens (see note below).
  • Take the filter off the lens and go handheld with a 77mm filter adapter.
  • Make the filter magnetic using our handy adapters. Great for hot swapping between filters.
  • Rotatable when fitted. This allows you to turn the effect during a video, allowing different coloured strands on the filters to interact with the light entering the lens. I recommend rotating anti-clockwise (in the same direction as tigthening the screw thread) to ensure the filter remains firmly attached to the lens at all times.
  • Available with rainbow confetti for a more colourful effect.

Is your lens a different size? Use one of our step up rings to make the filter compatible with your lens. With a filter like these where the effect is the same across the whole filter you should see little to no difference in the effect on different lenses so it’s okay to use a step up/down ring with this filter.
